Passengers stranded in Channel Tunnel

Five Eurostar trains broke down in the Channel Tunnel stranding thousands of passengers.

A representative for Eurostar said the five trains, which were coming from Brussels and Paris, failed because of the "very, very cold temperatures" outside and the "warm, humid" conditions inside the tunnel.

2,000 travelers were reported trapped in five trains for 10 hours overnight in a "nightmare" ordeal. After several hours without rescue some passengers were reported to have opened emergency hatches to evacuate themselves.
